Aquafil invests to increase polymer production

Italian fabric producer Aquafil has announced a €30 million investment in new machinery to allow it to increase its capacity to manufacture the polymers nylon 6 and nylon 66 at its plant in Lublijana, capital of Slovenia.

The Slovenian facility has the capacity to produce around 16,000 tonnes of the fabrics at the moment; Aquafil expects the new machinery to add around 10,000 tonnes a year to that from 2008 onwards.

Company director Dr Giulio Bonazzi said on announcing the expansion that Aquafil knew it had to keep growing to keep up with demand from customers he described as “the most demanding and most successful European users”.

He went on to say: “Our strategy is to support the efforts of the few, but extraordinary, textile companies that are still producing in Italy and in Europe. This investment is confirmation of that.

“To maintain their own success, these extraordinary operators need a supplier with a solid and profound understanding of the polymers and fibres that they produce.”
