Back-up system for outdoor apparel

Producer of phase-change material for outdoor and sports apparel Outlast Technologies has announced the availability of its Matrix Infusion Coating (MIC).

As reported on sportstextiles.com eight weeks ago, MIC is an application process that allows the company to apply a finely printed coating of its phase-change material onto flat fabric.

Outlast argues that this process provides a cost-effective way to add the benefits of temperature regulation to fabrics that are already in a company’s product line, including the compression and polyester fabrics many outdoor brands prefer. However, it points out that MIC can be used on virtually any fabric, including cotton or cellulosic-based materials.

“MIC allows us to apply Outlast technology to virtually any fabric, including polyester,” said Greg Roda, Outlast Technologies president and chief executive, on making the announcement. “This process provides another avenue for our partners to advance their products lines and offer another benefit to their customers.”

Mark Hartmann, technical director for Outlast added: “It is the perfect application for activewear. It gives the temperature regulation benefits of phase-change material and the wicking capabilities of polyester. It is like having a back-up system for your active needs.”
