Sports equipment market struggles to grow in the UK
04/09/2007
The sports equipment market in the UK has stalled since 2004 at a value of around £1bn a year, according to a new report available from specialist distributor Research and Markets.
The problem for the market, the report suggests, is that affluent consumers have moved away from competitive sports requiring equipment towards simple ways of keeping fit such as joining a gym, swimming, jogging or cycling.
The exception is golf, sales for which account for more than a third of the consumer outlay on sports equipment.
The new report is called the UK Sports Equipment Market Report 2007.
