Dominican departure for Starks
07/09/2007
Former NBA basketball star John Starks has travelled to the Dominican Republic to hold discussions about setting up a chain of sports retail stores there.
He held meetings in the capital, Santo Domingo, with the head of the Caribbean country's external investment agency and its sports minister.
After playing at shooting guard for the New York Knicks for most of the 1990s, John Starks retired from the NBA in 2002 with 10,829 career points, the most famous of them coming from a dunk over the heads of Chicago super-stars Michael Jordan and Horace Grant in a play-off match in 1993.
He runs the John Stark Foundation, which aims to help underprivileged teenagers complete their high school studies. He also runs basketball and golf coaching sessions and training camps.
Moving into sportswear retail would be a new move for him.
