Second office in India

11/09/2007

Specialist textile research and development body the Hohenstein Institutes has formally opened its second office in India.

The new facility, in the town of Tirupur in Tamil Nadu state, has been in operation since May, but the organisation wanted to mark its growing presence in India by holding a formal opening ceremony. Tirupur is within 100 kilometres of several thousand textile firms.

The Hohenstein Institutes opened its first office in India, in Mumbai, 18 months ago.

The organisation says that, with growth rates in double digits and a steadily increasing proportion of products going for export, the textile industry is one of the driving forces behind the booming Indian economy.

However, it insists that if Indian textile producers want to continue to grow and gain international recognition, it will be important for them to sign up for testing and certification from international bodies.
