Clariant to take over NanoSphere production

14/09/2007

Schoeller and Clariant have announced a new partnership that the two companies hope will boost the use of the NanoSphere textile finish in the global market.

Schoeller came up with the product, which uses nanotechnology to give textiles self-cleaning functionality, but it will now hand over production, sales and marketing of it to Clariant. The companies have agreed that this will be a more effective way of convincing textile producers to adopt the technology.

Philippe Royer, head of Clariant’s textile, leather and paper division, said on making the announcement: “We are always on the look-out for promising new technology and we have long been interested in  the possibilities of nanotechnology. The success of NanoSphere proves that completely new functions for consumers can be transferred to textiles using nanotechnology.”

Brands already using NanoSphere include Arc’Teryx, Henry Lloyd, Canada Goose and Daniel Hechter.
