Downturn in sales fails to faze Groupe Bikini
Canadian swimwear company Groupe Bikini Village inc. has posted a decline in sales for its second quarter, ended August 4, primarily due to the cooler weather in this period.
Net sales for the second quarter and six-month period ended August 4 totalled $13.5 million and $21.5 million, respectively, compared with $14.1 million and $22.6 million in the corresponding periods in 2006. Net earnings also fell during the second quarter, from $1.8 million in 2006 to $1.6 million.
However, according to president and CEO, Yves Simard, the company maintains a positive outlook, having opened three new stores and closed two non-performing outlets.
“While the second quarter - which includes the spring and summer months that are most popular for swimsuit purchases in Canada - was at one time the key to the year's performance, Groupe Bikini Village's strategy has enabled it to spread its business volume more evenly throughout the year, appealing to its clientele through the fall and winter months with the latest products for cruises and spring break,” he said.
