Global price increase for BASF’s PolyTHF

19/09/2007

German chemicals company BASF has increased the price of PolyTHF (Polytetrahydrofuran) worldwide by $150 per metric ton, or the equivalent amount in local currencies. This rise will take effect immediately or as contracts allow.

PolyTHF is mainly used to make elastic spandex fibres found in sports apparel and swimwear, although other applications include thermoplastic polyetheresters or polyetheramides and cast elastomers, which are used to make wheels for skateboards and inline skates.

The company has attributed the price hike to high raw materials and energy costs as well as to strong demand from all market segments.
