German chemicals producer BASF has increased the sales price for glyoxal, with immediate effect or as contracts allow.

Prices for Europe are up €40 per metric ton, while in the USA and South America prices have rise by $66 per metric ton $0.03 per pound. Prices in Asia are up $100 per metric ton.

The company has attributed the hikes to continued increases in raw materials and energy costs and as necessary measures in ensuring its products are of the highest standard.

Glyoxal is an intermediate for the chemical industry and is used in the production of textiles, polymers and leather goods, among other items. BASF is one of the world's largest glyoxal suppliers with an annual capacity of 80,000 tons and plants in Ludwigshafen, Germany, and Louisiana, USA.
