German sporting goods brand adidas has been named as the third sponsor for the London Olympics in a deal worth more than £100 million.

The company is now an official sportswear partner for the Games and will provide clothing for 70,000 volunteers in addition to officials and members of the torch carrying relay.

It will also supply clothing and equipment for British athletes at the 2008 Beijing Games and the 2010 Vancouver Winter Games.

World champions Tyson Gay and Allyson Felix were present when the sponsorship deal was announced, as was five-time Olympic goal medallist Nadia Comaneci.

Adidas chief executive officer Herbert Hainer said the sponsorship was the biggest single investment that the German company had made in the British market.
