Eurostat reveals a mixed bag for European textile production

According to Eurostat, the industrial new orders index fell by 4% in July compared with June, while EU27 new orders decreased by 3.9%.

Despite this, July industrial new orders increased by 10.9% in the euro area and by 13.2% in the EU27 compared with July 2006.

Manufacturing levels for textiles and textile products fell by 1.4% in the eurozone and 1.2% in the EU27 versus June figures. However, compared with July 2006 levels, textiles and textile product production rose 7.3% and 6.5%, respectively.

Compared with June, overall manufacturing levels for July rose in 13 of the member states for which data are available and fell in seven. Year-on-year, production rose in 19 and fell in just one.
