DuPont invests $500 million to increase Kevlar production

It is anticipated that its total Kevlar production capacity will be 25% higher by 2010.
Vice president and general manager – DuPont Advanced Fiber Systems, Thomas Powell, said that global demand for the fibre has risen as a result of the “growing need for safety and security worldwide.” He said that: “High energy prices have increased demand for the lightweight strength of Kevlar in the aerospace, oil and gas and automotive industries.”
Kevlar is an ultralight, strong synthetic fibre that can be used for items such as cut-and-abrasion-resistant apparel, gloves and accessories.
