There was a strong focus on advanced sportswear at the seventh edition of the Textile International Forum and Exhibition (TIFE), which took place in Tapei, Taiwan, from October 4-5.

The Extreme Sports pavilion featured high-tech modules to facilitate effective exercise management with a particular focus on sports bio-monitoring.

Extreme activewear shown included ‘ECG (electrocardiogram) bikewear’. The bike apparel featured a textile-based physiological monitor technology which can monitor heart rate and the number of calories burned, among other things. This information can be viewed on PDAs, wrist watches and mobile phones. It is compatible with Bluetooth and wireless technology.
