Textiles and apparel lead Vietnamese exports
The Vietnam Saigon Fabric and Garment Accessories Expo is to run concurrently with the 18th Vietnam Saigon Textile and Garment Industry Expo from April 9-12, 2008, in Ho Chi Minh City. Between them, the last editions of the events attracted more than 330 exhibitors from 24 countries.
According to the country’s statistics, export revenue from the textile and apparel industry in first nine months of 2007 totalled $35.6 billion, more than 20% higher than revenues for the same period in 2006. As a result, it has become the leading export sector.
Imports are also rising as the apparel industry grows, and estimates suggest that by 2010, annual fabric and garment components will total $3.8 billion.
