Chinese cotton exports rise

According to the Chinese National Textile and Apparel Council, the country’s cotton product exports totalled $47.4 billion during the first eight months of 2007, up 32% year-on-year.

Cotton textile exports accounted for $11.8 billion dollars, up 10.8% percent, while cotton apparel exports totalled $35.6 billion dollars, up 41.4%.

Its top export destinations for cotton products were Hong Kong ($6.96 billion), Japan ($5.7 billion), the US ($5.7 billion), Russia ($3 billion) and Canada ($1.7 billion).

Meanwhile, its cotton product imports totalled $4.1 billion during the eight-month, up 4% compared with the same period last year.
