Optimism at BASF as sales continue to rise

German chemical company BASF’s third quarter results reveal that both sales and earnings have risen, and that the company is on track to achieve record results for the year. Indeed, sales were higher across all of its business units for the quarter, with particularly strong growth among the businesses acquired last year.

Sales were up 5% for the three-month period to almost €14 billion ($20.2 billion), while sales for the first nine months of 2007 rose 13% to €43.3 billion.

Sales in the chemicals segment were up 5% during the third quarter, while plastics sales rose 3%. The performance products segment saw a 1% sales increase.

The company is now expecting global economic growth of 3.5% for the full year, with sales totalling approximately €58 billion.
