US House backs Peru free trade

09/11/2007

The US House of Representatives has approved a free trade deal with Peru, which is now only waiting for Senate approval before it takes effect. The House voted 285 to 132 in favour of the deal, which would eliminate tariffs and establish rules of investment.

"I am pleased that the House of Representatives today approved the free trade agreement with Peru," said President Bush.

"I encourage the US Senate to quickly approve this Agreement, and for Congress then to move promptly to consideration of our free trade agreements with Colombia, Panama, and South Korea," he added.
