Swedish fashion company H&M has joined forces with Finnish textile and clothing designer Marimekko to create a new 50-piece collection for summer 2008.

Designs are based on well-known Marimekko patterns from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s and will include women’s dresses, tunics, skirts, shorts and accessories. Children’s clothing will also be launched. The range will be available from April 2008.

"Our design team has long admired Marimekko's vivid prints and colours,” said H&M's head of design, Margareta van den Bosch. “The summer collection 2008 will be joyfully fresh like a vitamin injection," she added.

Marimekko was established in 1951 and makes high-end clothing, textiles, bags and other accessories.
