US sporting goods retailer Hibbett Sports Inc. has reported a 21% decline in third quarter earnings, while year-on-year sales were flat.

Profits for the quarter ended November 3 totalled $7.8 million compared with $9.9 million in the prior-year period. The company reported static sales at $129.6 million. However, same store sales fell 6.6%.

The company, which sells sports apparel, footwear and equipment for the American football, soccer, baseball, basketball and fitness sectors, has more than 600 stores in 23 states.
