New antimicrobial fibre from Radici and HeiQ
Swiss producer of nanocompositve additives and masterbatches HeiQ Materials AG has signed an agreement with man-made fibre manufacturer the Radici Group allowing Radici to develop fibres featuring HeiQ’s antimicrobial silver nanocomposite technology.
The new bacteriostatic polyester fibre, Nanofeel, is the first man-made fibre to feature the technology. The fibre is said to maintain the handle, strength and elongation properties of the original fibre while preventing the development of unpleasant odours and proliferation of bacteria.
RadiciGroup, operates in 15 countries globally and specialises in chemicals, plastics, textile machinery and synthetic fibres. It has approximately 7,400 employees worldwide and its consolidated total revenue for financial year 2006 was €1.4 billion ($2.1 billion).
