Nike strike ends
According to reports, strike action at a Vietnamese factory which makes shoes for sportswear company Nike has come to an end. Approximately 14,000 workers were reportedly involved in the five-day strike action.
Employees at the Dong Nai unit were appealing for a pay rise – they are currently paid around $62 per month – and benefits including bonus pay. They claim that high inflation is impacting their standard of living.
The workers, mainly women, were told that they would receive a $4.50 monthly transport allowance. Catering at the facility is also to be improved.
