Switzerland-based textile testing organisation Oeko-Tex’s US director, Dr Manfred Wentz has addressed participants at the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists (AATCC) symposium, which is currently being held in Long Beach, California. Dr Wentz’s talk was entitled ‘Textile Ecology and Oeko-Tex: Major Cornerstones for Sustainability of Our Industry’, which fitted well with the symposium’s general theme, ‘Fashion Garment Washing: Trends, Fabrics, Technologies and Sustainability’.

Textile ecology and textile safety expert Dr. Wentz explained the Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certification process and the role it can play in the textile, apparel, and retail industries’ long-term environmental sustainability efforts. He is a member of the American Apparel and Footwear Association (AAFA)’s Environmental Task Force, which this year published its Restricted Substance List for textiles and apparel.
