O’Neill Evolution approaches
There are only two weeks to go until O’Neill Evolution returns to Davos in Switzerland. The event is one of only six men’s 6-star freestyle Swatch TTR snowboarding displays and will be held from January 2–7.
With a prize purse of $100,000 as well as Swatch TTR ranking points, many prominent freestyle snowboarders are to attend, including 2007 Evolution Halfpipe winner, Antti Autti. Markku Koski, Markus Keller, Andy Finch, Risto Mattila, Iouri Podladtchikov, Janne Korpi, Henning Marthinsen, Fredi Kalbermatten, Eirik Haugo, Nicolas Mueller and Scotty Lago will also take part.
Dimi de Jong, a13-year-old O’Neill team rider, has been tipped as one to keep an eye on, having made it through to the finals last year alongside Travis Rice, Terje Haakonsen, Nicolas Mueller and Antti Autti.
In addition to $45,000 for the halfpipe and quarterpipe, $3,000 will be awarded for the highest air in the Swatch Highest Air Session in the halfpipe and $6,000 will be awarded for the highest air in the quarterpipe.
The halfpipe will be 120m long and will feature two new start towers and the famous rail at the exit. The quarterpipe will take the same format as last year, only with an improved position on the mountain and a new start tower for greater speed.
The event will feature a quarterpipe height measuring system, a new development in snowboarding events, which has been developed by Swatch and SwissTiming.
