Hi-Tec prepares "groundbreaking" collection
04/01/2008
Athletic and outdoor footwear brand Hi-Tec is preparing to bring to market a new collection of boots and shoes that feature P2i's ion-mask waterproofing technology.
What ion-mask does is coat any shoe or boot with a special solution that repels moisture for the lifetime of the footwear product without compromising breathability or comfort. In tests, the technology has compared favourably with membrane and durable water resistant alternatives. An extensive article about it appeared in the September-October 2007 issue of WSA.
Since then, Hi-Tec has announced a partnership with P2i and is now preparing to launch its first collection featuring ion-mask.
The brand has told sportstextiles.com that it has already equipped some of its manufacturing facilities to apply ion-mask to its footwear and is testing stock of the launch products. New waterproof versions, for women and men, of its best-selling walking boot, the Altitude Ultra, will reach retail outlets in August with a recommended retail price of around $150 a pair. Earlier versions of the boot retail for around $100 a pair at the moment. A new a stand-alone women's product called the Sierra 3000 WP ION MASK is also planned.
Hi-Tec has also said that it will launch a range of golf shoes with the new waterproof coating as soon as it can to meet "a mass surge in demand" for the technology.
