Founded in 1958 by Wilbert and Genevieve Gore as a wire and cable manufacturer, 2008 marks W. L. Gore & Associates’ 50th year in business. The company now functions in the fabrics, medical, industrial and electronic products industries.

Best known for its Gore-Tex fabrics and Elixir guitar strings, the company now employs more than 8,000 associates in 45 facilities globally, despite the fact that the business started from humble beginnings in the Gore’s family basement.

“Today, I can say with confidence that we have surpassed even my parents’ wildest dreams,” said chairman of the company’s board of directors, Bill Gore. “We have created thousands of valuable, life enhancing products, achieved enviable growth, and have been recognised around the world as a great workplace. I am tremendously proud of the associates’ accomplishments, enthusiasm and creativity, as I know my parents would be,” he added.
