Vietnamese textiles face stiff competition

08/01/2008

Although Vietnamese textile and garment exports to EU countries are expected to rise steadily in 2008, experts are concerned that the removal of quotas on Chinese textile items may have a detrimental effect on the sector’s growth capacity.

Textile and garment exports are expected to total approximately $1.65 billion over the coming year. Total exports to the EU in 2007 totalled $8.5 billion, up 19% and accounting for 18% of the country’s total annual revenues.

Other major exports include footwear, coffee, seafood and items made from wood.
