Bangalore-based garment exporter Gokaldas Exports has reportedly announced plans to establish new manufacturing units in Hubli and Mangalore, both of which are also in the Karnataka region in southern India. Rental and labour costs have increased rapidly in Bangalore, while the company’s outgoings at the new facilities will be considerably lower. It is hoped that the two units will increase production by approximately four million garments, raising the total capacity to more than 30 million garments a year.

The firm currently runs 48 factories in Bangalore and has around 52,000 employees. Its garments include outerwear items, denim apparel, swimwear, activewear and sportswear.
