JJB agrees to shirt refunds

10/01/2008

UK-based sporting goods retailer JJB Sports is to offer refunds to football fans that purchased certain replica football shirts in 2000 and 2001. The decision was reached after consumer watchdog Which? initiated legal proceedings against the firm.

The sportswear company, which was fined £6.3 million by the Office of Fair Trading along with nine other vendors for price fixing, is to reimburse buyers of various England and Manchester United shirts. However, it continues to refute the price-fixing allegations. Those whose claims were made through Which? will receive £20, while other claimants will be offered £10, although both groups must have proof of purchase and must make claims before February 9, 2009. This could cost the retailer more than £20,000, according to reports.
