Smart textiles to boost South Korean exports
According to reports, South Korean textile exporters are to focus on technical textiles and apparel this year in order to lift export revenues. Despite tightening financial conditions in the global economy, fabric and clothing exports are set to rise 1.6% year-on-year, according to the ministry of commerce. Exports were up 2.3% on 2007, the first rise since 2000.
The country’s textile exports are set to reach almost $14 billion in 2008, rising for the second year in a row as it increases the value of goods produced and ships to new export destinations. Total South Korean exports are expected to total $415 billion in 2008, with textile and apparel accounting for more than 3%.
