Hi-Tec and P2i present ionmask shoes at ispo

16/01/2008
UK-based sports equipment producer Hi-Tec is to present a new footwear collection developed in collaboration with technology firm P2i Ltd at ispo, which will be held in Munich, Germany, from January 27-30.

The ion-mask shoes are said to be totally waterproof, without appearing to be any different from normal footwear. They are also breathable, dirt resistant and lightweight. Furthermore, the environmental impact of making the shoes is said to be less harmful than traditional waterproofing processes.

Plasma-based technology ion-mask was originally developed to protect the military from chemical attacks. It permanently alters the surface of fabric at a molecular level to repel water and other liquids. It may also be used to waterproof mobile phones and MP3 players in the near future so that these devices are protected even in extreme weather conditions.
