Sympatex Eco-Blue jacket wins ispo award

21/01/2008

Functional waterproof breathable products manufacturer Sympatex has won the ispo European Ski Award for its fully recyclable “Eco-Blue” ski jacket, the third ispo award the Munich-based functional clothing firm has won within a year.

The jacket is made from polyester-polyether copolymer so, unlike other breathable membranes, which contain fluorocarbons and isocyanide derivatives, its polymers are similar to natural substances. Therefore, they can be broken down by naturally occurring enzymes into harmless water and carbon dioxide.

The Sympatex membrane is combined with a polyester material made from recycled PET bottles, so that 90% of the end product is derived from recycled polymers.

The jacket is windproof and waterproof, breathable and has ultrasonically welded seams, waterproof zippers, elastic cuffs, a fleece collar, ski pass pouch and snow cuffs. It is produced by the Barco Tekstil Company in Istanbul, Turkey. Among other environmental measures, the manufacturer plants a tree for every 1,000 items it produces. It is planning to construct a new building this year that will be built solely from environmentally friendly and natural materials such as stone and glass. Its wastewater will be treated and recycled for reuse in the production process and the company will produce warm water using its own solar energy facility.
