Military options for Invista’s Nyco fabrics

25/01/2008

Integrated producer of fibres, fabrics and finishes Invista has launched a nylon fibre blend with anti-static properties called Invista T420A. Fabrics made from the blend will be qualified as Cordura Nyco fabrics with P140 static dissipative fibre.

These fabrics are suitable for use in military and workwear uniforms. They are designed to be worn in environments where durability is a key requirement and static electricity is a hazard. It can be used for military mechanics overalls, combat clothing for aviation and combat vehicle crewmembers, garments worn by NASA rocket fuel handlers, and work clothing worn around petrochemical, chemical and electrical hazards.

Fabrics based on Nyco fabrics will help: reduce the static charge on fabrics and other materials; modify the electrical fields generated by materials; moderate charge intensity to a level too low to cause spark ignition of most hydrocarbon vapour/air mixtures; and increase the wearer’s confidence in the anti-static properties of the garment.
