Eurojersey goes for green
Italian fabric developer Eurojersey has launched a new ‘green’ programme, SensitivEcoSystem, with the aim of reducing the environmental impact of its industrial manufacturing process. The company claims to be one of the warp knit textiles manufacturers with the lowest environmental impact in the world and is keen to promote energy conservation and preservation of its local surroundings.
Over the last 10 years, the company has invested in new machinery, software and technology at its Italian factory to manage production in the most efficient way. This covers the whole process from knitting, to dyeing to printing its Sensitive fabrics range. Since 2001 it has reported strong energy savings and a significant reduction of waste and consumption in the production cycle.
Comparing the production cycle per kilogramme of Sensitive produced with 2001 figures, the company has reduced electricity consumption by 5% and gas methane by 13%. Compared with 2003, water consumption has fallen 19%.
Paper and cardboard consumption has fallen by 21 tons, nearly two-thirds, compared with 2001, while dyes and chemicals consumption is down 25%.
In 2008 it hopes to improve further, by using energy exclusively from renewable resources including solar energy, and to invest further in achieving in zero environmental impact through sustainability programmes.
The SensitivEcoSystem programme also covers ethical behaviour including resource management and waste recycling.
