The textile and apparel industry continues to grow in China, although according to a new report available from Dublin-based Research and Markets, the rate of increase is slowing.

Entitled 'Editorial: Textiles and Clothing in China: Competitive Threat or Market Opportunity?', the report states that exports from the sector rose by almost 20% between January and September 2007 compared with the prior-year period, totalling $111.7 billion. Broken down, clothing exports were up 22% to $74.9 billion, while textile shipments rose 14% to $36.9 billion.

Exports to the US rose most sharply, up 28% year-on-year to $21 billion, while exports to the EU were also up 21% to $24.6 billion. However, sales to Japan were less impressive, up just 4% to $16.4 billion.
