Hemp Trading given ethical business accreditation

13/02/2008

London-based eco clothing firm The Hemp Trading Company Limited is one of the first 23 companies to be listed in an ethical business accreditation scheme launched February 1. Green Fibres, which creates garments and other goods from natural fibres was also included in the list.

Designed to help build public trust in socially and environmentally responsible business, the SEE Companies initiative is the only scheme that accredits companies, rather than individual products, across a range of social, environmental and ethical (SEE) issues.

Accredited companies are licensed to display the SEE Companies Logo on packaging and marketing materials, making identification easy.

Managing director of the The Hemp Trading Company, Dru Lawson, said: “As a company founded on the twin pillars of sustainable fibre and ethical manufacture we encourage transparency at every stage of our process; however, working to reintroduce hemp agriculture means the traditional channels are not always open to us.

“SEE Companies has already proved an invaluable tool for company self-awareness as well as an opportunity for people to see what we believe in, how we do what we do and the honest process to achieving our goals.”
