Austrian producer of cellulose fibres Lenzing is to supply flame retardant specialty fibres for a new line of US armed forces combat wear for the next five years.

The company supplies the heat protection fibre FR fibres to its US partner, TenCate Protective Fabric, as US legislation states that that only fully US-made clothing may be made for the US armed forces. The new uniform fabric DefenderM offers essential flame protection, active moisture management and comfort.

Lenzing is now investing in greater production capacity to supply FR fibres in response to increased international demand. Tests and wear trials are currently being carried out by international armed forces.
