Ethical fashion appeals to the young
Young Voice08, which will be held February 26 in Liverpool, UK, is to focus on ethical fashion as the younger generation turns its back on cheap, sweatshop-produced items.
Speakers at the conference will include Nin Castle and Phoebe Emerson from Goodone Clothing, Nick Stanhope from We Are What We Do and Kresse Wesling who makes accessories from recycled fire hose.
There will also be a fair trade fashion show, Ethique, run by members of the Youth Commission for Social Enterprise.
According to figures from the Government’s Annual Small Business Survey 2005 and existing data for the social enterprise sector, there are at least 55,000 social enterprises in the UK with a combined turnover of £27 billion per year. Social enterprises account for 5 per cent of all businesses with employees and contribute £8.4 billion per year to the UK economy – almost 1% of annual GDP.
