Puma gets the Swedish touch

Swedish golfer Johan Edfors has teamed up with Hollywood actor and keen golfer Luke Wilson to create a new golf wear and shoe collection for Germany-based sporting goods emporium Puma. The products will be launched in two stages, the first in April and the second in July.

Mr Wilson claims the more sophisticated sportswear styles of the 1950s were an important influence for the line. "We had some real fun with some of the product designs including the C-hopper shoe that you can wear on or off the course by just removing the spikes," he says.

Puma recently extended its contract with the Swedish Athletic Association, which was initiated in January 2005. The agreement has been extended beyond the London Olympics in 2012. The company will continue to be the official apparel and footwear supplier for all Swedish teams competing at major sporting events, including the Beijing Olympics this summer.

This includes Swedish 400-metres sprinter Johann Wissman, high-jumper Linus Thornblad and 100-meter-hurdles athlete Jenny Kallur. At the 2004 Olympic Games, Sweden took home three athletics gold medals in men’s high jump, men’s triple jump and the women’s heptathlon.
