Management changes at Umbro as Nike deal completes

04/03/2008
Chief executive officer and board member at Umbro Plc, Steve Makin, has decided to leave the company. Matthew Cook, who was most recently general manager of Nike Italy, will succeed Mr Makin as president and CEO with immediate effect.

Mr Makin joined Umbro in July 2006 as chief financial officer, which he maintained until June 2007 when he became chief executive. However, he has decided that, with Nike’s acquisition of the company becoming effective today, it is now the right time to move on.

Meanwhile, Mr Cook joined Nike from Price Waterhouse in January 1993 as finance director of Nike Italy. He moved to Nike's world headquarters in 1995 as global financial planning director. He returned to Nike Italy in 1997 as footwear business director and became general manager in 2000.
