According to organisers Messe München, ispo summer has been cancelled until further notice. Instead, the group has organised new events for the sporting goods sector for the summer.

A new Running Order Show will be the first business to business event for the Running segment worldwide and will be held in Munich from June 29 to July 1. Its categories will include shoes, clothing, accessories, triathlon, Nordic Walking, nutrition, running analysis methods and materials management.

Sports Source Europe will run parallel to Running Order and will create a platform in Europe for the growing sourcing segment to complement Sports Source Asia, which launched in 2007.

Head of ispo Group, Tobias Gröber explained: "Because sporting goods are becoming increasingly more fashionable and more oriented to lifestyle, they are increasingly subject to short-term trends. In addition to Asia as the leading production region for sporting goods, sourcing markets at the doorstep of Europe such as North Africa and Eastern Europe and especially Turkey and Portugal are becoming increasingly more important."

Messe München is to launch another trade fair in Munich next year. "We are paying special attention to the growth segment of sportstyle in this. Consequently, we are planning a platform for sports-inspired lifestyle in 2009", chief executive officer, Manfred Wutzlhofer said.

The company has completed a deal with North American sports trade fair organiser Nielsen Business Media to expand its global reach. "The creation of lucrative new markets, above all in China, is contributing to the continual internationalisation of the sporting goods industry," added Mr Wutzlhofer.
