Danisco India produces textile enzyme blends
14/03/2008
Netherlands-based sweeteners producer Danisco has opened two new units in India to make enzyme blends for the textile industry, among others. The plants, which cost $6 million to set up and include manufacturing units, laboratories and offices, will serve customers across southern Asia.
The industrial enzymes segment is worth an estimated $75 million and is a rapidly growing market in India. The Indian textile sector is also a major market for Genencor – the company’s enzyme unit that will run the unit – and is the country’s second largest employment generator after agriculture. The textile industry comprises approximately 14% of the country’s industrial production.
