Blaze quenched at INEOS

A fire broke out at specialty chemicals manufacturer INEOS in Köln, Germany, on March 17.  It was caused when an emission of ethylene from the main pipeline that feeds the ignited. A stock tank near to the initial incident also caught fire.

Approximately 600 firefighters were called to the plant, and an additional 600 members of the emergency services attended in support. Precautionary advice for residents to remain indoors was lifted within hours of the blaze breaking out.

The Dormagen plant employs approximately 1,800 staff. It manufactures speciality and intermediate chemicals, including oxides, glycols and esters.
