New enzyme product helps keep whites bright

Denmark-based Novozymes has launched a new detergent to help prevent whites becoming discoloured. It removes damaged particles from the surface of the of the fabric, preventing dirt from attaching itself to clothes during the washing process.

Moreover, it does not affect the durability and strength of the garment, according to marketing director, Anders Lund. The company claims the detergent is better than bleach which merely masks the dirt particles and is unable to counteract the effects of certain types of dirt, such as pollution and soil.

“Detergent manufacturers can now give their customers a solution that does not just mask dirt but actually removes it,” says Mr Lund. The product is said to work particularly well on striped fabrics as neither colour is diminished when it is used.
