Cotton stays steady

Farmers in the US state of Virginia will plant the same amount of cotton this year as last, defying reports that the agricultural sector in the US was giving up on this traditional crop.

Figures show that across the state, farms will devote 600,000 acres to cotton, the same as in 2007. Space given over to corn and tobacco will be down, with the biggest increases coming in winter wheat and barley.
