Indian fabric production rises

According to the Confederation of Indian Apparel Exporters, the country's fabric production rose 3.41% in the period April to December, 2007. It found that total production for the period totalled approximately 40.66 billion m² compared with 39.32 billion m² for the same period in the previous year. Production for the full year is expected to hit 56.77 billion m².

Cotton fabric production for the nine-month period totalled 20.28 billion m
² compared with 19.51 billion m² in the prior-year period, while blended yarn production fell to 5.12 billion m² compared with 5.23 billion m². Despite this, 100% non-cotton fabric production increased from 14.58 billion m² to 15.27 billion m²
in the 2007 nine-month period.
