EU rules in favour of adidas and its stripes

10/04/2008

The European Court of Justice has ruled that sportswear giant adidas can prevent rival companies using two stripes on the shoulders of sports tops, despite the fact that the famous adidas motif features three stripes. The company took legal action against C&A, H&M, Marca Mode and Vendex in the Netherlands.

The court said that "the mere fact that the relevant section of the public establishes a link between the two is sufficient".

The case was brought in the Netherlands by Adidas against C&A, H&M, Marca Mode and Vendex.

Meanwhile, adidas Originals has unveiled two new themes for its autumn/winter 2008 collection, Craftsmanship and Techrave. Both categories offer men’s and women’s styles featuring footwear, apparel and accessories. Highlights of the Craftsmanship range include the men's ZX700 Boat, a street reinterpretation of the 1980s running shoe series ZX, and the women's purple Archive Cord Dress featuring corduroy and tartan detailing. The Techrave line is a colourful collection inspired by the 1990s rave scene featuring metallic material combinations and cool neon pop colours.
