New jacket fabrics and technical textiles from Schoeller FTC

16/04/2008

Joint venture company Schoeller FTC has been focusing on jacket and coat weights in a variety of different styles, such as rep weave, canvas structure and smooth. While some provide a technical taffeta look with a wet feel, others are enhanced with metal yarns or with two-tone fabrics.

Textiles for down jackets are also among the company's specialties. These fabrics are ultra light yet down-proof and can be either papery or super glossy and smooth. A microcoating or c_change climate membrane is used where waterproofing is needed. C_change is a moisture management system which allows excess heat and water vapour to evaporate outside the garment in warm temperatures and contracts in colder, drier conditions.

The company has also launched new technical fabrics for luggage, trims and motorcycle wear with a variety of different structured surfaces. Fabrics range from light casual textiles to heavy, abrasion-proof polyamide functional fabrics. The fall-proof, shiny motorcycle satin is designed to offer protection and elegant, sporty style.

Schoeller FTC is a joint venture between Swiss textile technology company Schoeller Textil AG and the Formosa Taffeta Group, one of Taiwan's largest textile producers. The joint venture started up in 2001 with the first fabric creations which combined modern Schoeller technologies with Formosa's high production capacity. Its customers include Banana Republic, BMW, Calvin Klein, Daniel Hechter, GAP, Hugo Boss, Mammut, Montbell, Peak Performance and Polo Ralph Lauren.
