New MerinoCot fabrics from Gokak Textile
Bangalore-based Gokak Textile Ltd (GTL) has launched a MerinoCot trouser and suit fabric range for the Indian, European and American markets. MerinoCot is a premium fabric made from high quality cotton dyed yarn with various performance-based finishes. Finishes vary depending on the season and the function of the garment.
“While there is no shortage of basic functional fabric for bottom wears in the country, we at GTL feel that there is still room for high value-added, fashionable cotton and eco-friendly blended fabrics to cater to the needs/demands of upper segment customers," said executive director and CEO, Mr H Bhaskar.
“The estimated market size for bottom weight fabric is more than $14 billion.”
Over the past three years, the company has invested approximately Rs160 crore ($40 million) in its factories at Gokak falls and Marihal, Karnataka. This has enabled them to create a supply chain solution for its MerinoCot fabrics, which are produced on modern air jet looms.
GTL also manufactures knitted garments and has a fully integrated garment factory at Belgaum, Karnataka. It supplies garments to a range of international brands including Burton, M&S, Andrew Sports and Debenhams.
