Brazilian textile company Bidim, a subsidiary of specialist textile fibres producer Fiberweb Group, has set up a factory in Uruguay. The new unit will serve as a regional production centre from which it will supply the Brazilian, Argentinean, Colombian and Venezuelan markets. Bidim expects turnover to be in the region of $4 million a month.

An investment of $500,000 was required to open the Uruguayan factory, which will initially operate as finishing unit and distribution channel for products made in Brazil.

"Bidim's decision to set up business in Uruguay has turned the country into the spearhead of a project whose main objective is to expand and consolidate business units in the whole of Latin America," said the company's Brazil president, Carlos Caldeira.
