Rapid growth in apparel sales at Geox

Italy-based casual footwear and apparel manufacturer Geox S.p.A. has posted improved results for its first quarter.

Consolidated sales increased 16% to €365 million, with sales at the end of April up 20% compared with the same period in 2007. Footwear sales represented 93% of consolidated sales, totalling €337.5 million, up 12% year-on-year. Apparel sales accounted for 7% of consolidated sales at €27.2 million, an 88% increase.

Italy remains the group’s largest market, accounting for 35% of sales. First quarter sales rose 13% to €126.3 million. Europe (excluding Italy) generated 49% of sales compared with 51% in the same period of 2007. Europe sales totalled €178.1 million, a 10% increase. The USA reported a 14% sales increase and other countries reported a 49% sales increase in sales.
